Encounters - An exhibition of artworks by Rebecca Holden

18 - 30 July 2024 (Te Auaha Gallery, 65 Dixon Street, Wellington)

Curious fantastical creatures encounter one another within these paintings. What happens in the moment of their encounters?

A mix of encounters play out between the fantastical creatures in Rebecca’s work. Creatures who are part person, part animal but all fantasy are each players in a curious game of happenstance. From a tender embrace to what looks somewhat like a procession, the works encourage the possibility of multiple stories. Some of these characters within the artworks look out of their situation towards the viewer. But are they inviting you in or is there something else within their gaze.

Bringing together a collection of works in different medium the show investigates how multiple encounters play out throughout a day, a week, or perhaps a moment. All happening in parallel. The artist invites you the viewer, to uncover your own stories within the work.
