Pōneke Festival of Contemporary Dance

30 June - 05 July 2025 (Te Auaha, 65 Dixon Street, Wellington)

The Pōneke Festival of Contemporary Dance is a new initiative from Te Auaha and Footnote New Zealand Dance, now in its second year.

This festival was born from our desire to see contemporary dance artists work, live and thrive in Pōneke all year round.

To create an environment where this can happen successfully, we understand that we need to build audiences for contemporary dance.

Contemporary dance is so varied, with so many different subgenres and styles, that we are sure there is a show for everyone.

We want you to jump aboard the waka with us. Come along to a show, and bring a friend who hasn’t seen a dance show before. Check out the residency programme and follow the artists on their social media. Talk about what you have seen with your whānau.

The Pōneke Festival of Contemporary Dance is here to ensure a vibrant future for the Pōneke dance scene, fostering a passionate community around this captivating art form.

The festival is a joint initiative presented by Te Auaha and Footnote New Zealand Dance.
Congratulations to our 2025 residency recipients who receive a week long residency at the Te Auaha dance studios, to research and develop their own arts practice.
