Yeah Let Me Sit With It (2025)

22 January - 09 February 2025 (Te Auaha Gallery, 65 Dixon Street, Wellington)

An exhibition by Mumu Moore.

Mumu Moore has lived a thousand lives, and his memories flow across multiple expressive art forms. These experiences settle, merge, and form dynamic potions that rise to the surface.

Yeah Let Me Sit With It (2024) invites you to sit in silence or let your eyes dance through fragments of Mumu's vibrant, expressive mind.

Hailing from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Mumu Moore whakapapa to Ngāi Te Rangi in Tauranga Moana and also carries Scottish, English, and French heritage. His multidisciplinary practice spans film, poetry, painting, taonga pūoro, and guided meditation.

This series of paintings is an ode to the whenua, exploring how the landscapes we inhabit shape our inner worlds. Inspired by indigenous mark-making traditions that symbolise the vital connection between natural elements and human existence, Mumu uses lines to visualize what he feels, intuits, and observes in the land.

Through his process, Mumu captures the essence of his journeys through the whenua and the healing they bring to his psyche. His paintings evoke:

  • The ridgeline of a mountain, backlit by Rā.
  • The damp line of sea foam where sand meets sea.
  • Lines of light, dancing through water.
  • Trees dancing in the wind.
  • Manu gliding silently through the sky.
  • Winding paths and roads that lead us onward through the landscapes of our lives.

In an increasingly disconnected world, Mumu asks: How can we turn to nature to process life’s experiences and ground ourselves in a sense of place and identity?

Nau mai, haere mai—come join Mumu on this journey.
