CIVIC - A Shifting Festival

03 - 08 November 2025 (Te Auaha, 65 Dixon Street, Wellington)

Shifting Centre presents CIVIC, a 5 day offering of art and communal gatherings hosted in the heart of Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

Dedicated to providing an anchor for Indigenous artists in the Capital to share, create, exchange and dream.

It has been a tumultuous few years for artists here in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, facing many challenges and setbacks as we try to preserve and pursue careers as artists. Which led to reflection upon our own surrounding communities and asking what it is that we need to keep going, to keep pushing and to keep making. Out of this reflection we identified a need to create more spaces for our Indigenous artist community to gather, to share, to create and to dream.

This, birthing the idea of CIVIC.

Over the 5 days we will have offerings of short films, live works, workshops & community gatherings all facilitated and created by Indigenous emerging artists. Open for all artists or art-appreciators. We urge you to join us on this kaupapa and to continue to support your local emerging artists!

Our festival programme is as follows:

🗓️ Tues 4/11 & Wed 5/11: Workshops with Savvy.B + Open Jamz (Tues) & Nay Nay + an Open Community Cypher (Wed).
